Antoine is a logistics coordinator in Grenoble in his late thirties who carried years of forgettable school English around like a dead language -- he could read a contract but froze the second someone actually spoke to him. A work trip where he nodded through an entire dinner without understanding a word was the tipping point. Instead of signing up for expensive evening classes he had no time for, he started teaching himself at home: short sessions after the kids were asleep, a messy pile of self-study packs of wildly uneven quality, a lot of talking to himself in the kitchen. Some of it clicked, plenty of it was repackaged filler. He writes about what actually moved him from frozen to functional, as a self-taught learner -- no teaching diploma, no linguistics background, no time spent living abroad. Just someone who went from dreading English to handling a call without sweating.
